Travel information

Whether by rail, road or air – the Black Forest Highlands holiday region is easy to get to from all directions.

Getting there is convenient and attractive

It’s easy to travel directly to the Black Forest Highlands. This vacation region is surrounded by international airports: Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg, Zurich, Strasburg and Baden-Airpark (75 min.), Stuttgart (90 min.) and Frankfurt (180 min.).
Or why not fly to France, see Paris and then take the superfast TGV train to the Black Forest city of Freiburg in less than four hours.

Alternatively, if you plan to travel via Frankfurt, there are some attractive destinations along the way to the Black Forest such as Heidelberg, Worms, Speyer or Baden-Baden.

The Black Forest is well connected by rail and road – from the Black Forest city of Freiburg it’s 30 to 40 minutes by train, bus or car through the rugged and picturesque Höllental valley.

We recommend that for a trip over several days or a whole weekend you rent a car when you arrive at the airport (or charter a bus as part of a tour group) and then use the Black Forest Highlands as your base for attractive day-trips every day. That is certainly better and more relaxing than doing tours with different overnight stops every day, especially as all the resorts in the Black Forest Highlands enjoy a particularly healthy climate.

The Black Forest Highlands is also a good alternative as an ideal stopover destination, if you’re planning a larger scale tour.

In the Black Forest Highlands itself you can use all public transportation (buses, trains) with your KONUS Guest Card for free. And with the Hochschwarzwald Card, if you spend at least two nights at participating lodgings, you have the use of virtually all the tourist attractions all year round for free.
